Blog 6: How did *Batwara 1947* fare at the box office?


Sunny Deol's *Batwara 1947* hit theaters on August 14, 2026. The film was expected to benefit from the Independence Day week. On its opening day, the film garnered a net collection of approximately ₹5 crore in India.

A significant surge in collections was observed on the second day. According to reports, the film earned around ₹13.50 crore at the domestic box office on day two, bringing its total two-day net collection in India to approximately ₹19.25 crore.

The film's theme is based on the Partition of 1947 and features a cast that includes Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol alongside Sunny Deol. Rajkumar Santoshi has helmed the film as director.

However, the film received mixed reactions during its initial run. At the box office, it faced competition from Emraan Hashmi's *Awarapan 2*, which was released during the same period.

By the fifth day, reports indicated that *Batwara 1947*'s collection in India had reached around ₹30 crore.

The film's future earnings will depend on the strength of the audience response and the number of shows it secures in theaters. Sunny Deol's popularity and the Independence Day theme could prove to be positive factors for the film.
